Major News
63% of Power Conference Starting Quarterbacks are Transfers
43 transfer quarterbacks, among the 68 power conference teams, are projected to start in 2024.
This includes high profile quarterbacks at conference champion favorites and expected CFP contenders such as Ohio State’s Will Howard, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard, and Miami’s Cam Ward. All four quarterbacks are first-year transfers that are believed to be among the highest-paid players in college football.
Overall, the average NIL cost of a transfer QB this past year was $350,000, and the average starting QB transfer was older than most other college athletes. The average QB spent 4.7 years in college, and was 23-26 years old.

National College Players Association Opposes the $2.8 billion NCAA-House settlement
The National College Players Association (NCPA), a pro-labor union membership organization started in 2001, announced Thursday that it stands in opposition of the proposed settlement.
The NCPA has filed or encouraged pro-athlete legislation and litigation, including the fight to make college athletes employees before the National Labor Relations Board, and said it has over 20,000 current and/or former members.
The NCPA believes that the settlement (1) allows the NCAA and schools to collude to ban revenue sharing if employment arrives in college athletics; (2) does not require schools to share revenue; (3) undermines athletic scholarships; and (4) allows conferences and the NCAA to abolish collectives that are distributing millions of NIL-related dollars to athletes.
A preliminary hearing is currently set for Thursday. If approved, the plaintiffs lawyers will get 90 days to gather class names from universities and issue them notices of the settlement. Then there is another 90-day period for those members to individually object to the settlement.

Tip of the Week: As school starts and practice begins, do not forget about your mental health
At the collegiate level, student athletes face many challenges- balancing schoolwork, constantly being in the spotlight, and trying to focus on their short and long term goals. With NIL providing another area of interest (and responsibility), it is imperative that student athletes prioritize themselves. NIL is a complicated subject, and student athletes will make the best decisions when they listen to their bodies and utilize mental health resources.
