Utah Lawmakers Enter The NIL Regulation Debate
Utah’s Senate President Stuart Adams worries that NIL deals are “messing up college athletes.”
The legislature has proposed a bill that would ban NIL deals promoting tobacco, alcohol, and gambling.
The potential legislation would require student-athletes to disclose deals over $600 to their respective universities while keeping them off the public record.
Under the proposed law, state universities would have more jurisdiction to review deals for violations of university rules, NCAA rules, or state law.
Georgia QB Carson Beck Buys $270K Lamborghini
Top college football quarterback Carson Beck appeared on the “Atlanta Autos” Instagram account showing him with the keys to a black Lamborghini Urus Performante.
Beck’s purchase comes a few months after he decided to remain in school for the 2024-2025 college football season.
The Bulldog quarterback has already partnered with Zero FG Energy Drink, The Player’s Lounge, Leaf Trading Cards, and Associated Credit Union.
Beck claims that NIL was not a big factor in his decision to return, but states that he is excited to explore additional branding opportunities outside of Georgia.
Rick Pitino’s “Solution 2” Creates A College Basketball Salary Cap
St. John’s Head Basketball Coach Rick Pitino wants major conferences to create a salary cap of up to $2 million.
Pitino wants players to sign a two-year binding contract that is no different than those signed by professional athletes.
After the Dartmouth decision on Monday, Pitnio proposed “Solution 2” which would create a new collegiate landscape that includes contracts for players.
Under “Solution 2,” NIL collectives would have to design their contracts based on the salary cap, which would be regulated by conference commissioners rather than NCAA officials.
