The NCAA’s Proposed Compensation Model Could Eliminate Football Walk-Ons
Power 5 conference leaders are considering significantly reducing football rosters as part of a proposed new athlete compensation model
The proposed compensation model proposes to reduce rosters from 115+ players, to as few as 85-95 players. 85 is the maximum number of scholarships permitted under current NCAA rules.
In addition to new roster limitations, the proposed compensation model would removes scholarship restrictions by allowing schools to extend scholarships to all rostered players.
Benefits of reduced rosters may include (1) reduced expenses in conjunction with the rising costs associated with athlete revenue sharing, (2) A limitation on school’s scholarship distributions, and (3) more freedom to comply with Title IX.

Snoop Dogg’s Arizona Bowl
Snoop Dogg’s Arizona Bowl will provide NIL deals for all student-athletes associated with the game.
This is the first time that a bowl game has provided an NIL deal for every player.
Last year, 78 players opted out of the various bowl games, and the hope is that providing an NIL deal for every player will help reduce the number of opt-outs this year.
The compensation has not yet been determined, but Snoop Dogg said he wants to give the players an opportunity to support the community of Tucson while also using their NIL to earn money for themselves and their families.
