Recapping NIL This Week:
MOGL announces new equal-access NIL monitoring system MOGL Monetize™
MOGL, a platform used to connect college athletes with prospective NIL opportunities, was started by former Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush along with fellow Notre Dame alum Ayden Syal. The team announced Monday that they would be launching the MOGL Monetize™ program, which provides free NIL compliance monitoring and reporting solutions to universities. Included in the package is a compliance dashboard, which would have NIL activity disclosure log information on various NIL transactions.
“MOGL Master™ provides student-athletes with holistic NIL education and instruction across key verticals like financial literacy, tax guidance, and contract review,” Wimbush said. “As a former student-athlete, I recognize how important it is for athletes to navigate this landscape in an informed manner, so we’ve worked to create solutions to help them and their institutions do that.” Universities are able to sign up to participate in the monitoring program, and the company anticipates a few dozen participants by the end of the summer, per the press release.
MOGL, which was founded in 2019, operates similarly to a LinkedIn or an Indeed, connecting businesses and brands directly to athletes. The companies are given access to the digital platform, and therefore the athletes, and can list campaigns, marketing opportunities, jobs and other similar things. Additionally, a local company is able to filter the options to a certain school and can invite athletes in that area to apply.
“MOGL is unlike any other solution available today because they are truly providing technology that benefits and protects all student-athletes and all institutions,” said Tom Bowen, former athletic director at the University of Memphis. “I can firmly say that their technology, team, and value is the best available in the NIL world.”
INFLCR, On3 announce partnership to provide student athletes with market valuation tools, educational resources
On3 announced a partnership Monday with INFLCR.
The new partnership will focus on providing the On3 NIL Valuation, as well as educational resources to all student-athletes at INFLCR partnered schools. The tools, resources, and content designed and built by On3 will have a significant impact on the ongoing goal to help athletes navigate the NIL era both safely and successfully.
The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index setting the standard market NIL value for high school and college-level athletes. The On3 NIL Valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a specific moment in time. The On3 NIL Valuation is calculated on three primary categories:
Social media following and engagement
Athlete data, achievements, performance, and media sentiment
Endorsement deals, opportunities, and Collectives
“Our partnership with INFLCR is a tremendous validation of the work On3 has done in the NIL space in such a short period of time,” On3 Founder and CEO Shannon Terry said. “INFLCR is the leading content and compliance software in the space, reaching thousands of student-athletes from more than 200 Division I schools.”
Horizon League becomes first conference to have an NIL marketplace
The Horizon League announced today a partnership with Opendorse highlighted by the HL becoming the first conference to have a conference-wide marketplace exclusively for League student athletes.
The partnership provides participating member institutions with access to Opendorse’s NIL products, including a school-specific marketplace for each individual institution and educational content.
Student athletes will be able to utilize Opendorse’s first-class education modules, including the Masterclass Collection, to help build their brands and understand the financial impacts of NIL deals. They will also have access to marketplaces to then take that knowledge and find the right NIL deals for them. Their institutions and the League will also be able to track deals and provide content to help build their brands.
“This partnership immediately positions the Horizon League as an NIL leader at the conference level,” said Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence. “As we enter the second year of NIL, it will become vital for schools and conferences to engage their local markets to support student-athletes. The conference-wide marketplace and access to school-specific marketplaces will do just that. I’m proud that Opendorse can empower the Horizon League and its student-athletes to better understand and maximize the opportunities that NIL brings.”
"This groundbreaking partnership with Opendorse continues to showcase the Horizon League’s commitment to innovation within college athletics,” said HL Commissioner Julie Roe Lach. “We remain committed to every aspect of the student-athlete experience and this will allow our student-athletes an unprecedented opportunity to capitalize on their name, image and likeness while providing them in-depth information on brand building and financial literacy.”
ICYMI Ticker
Denver Broncos Tight End and Michigan alum Jake Butt: “I think whenever change happens there's a little bit of short term volatility. Right now you're seeing an extreme. I don't necessarily know that it's sustainable. I do think (NIL) is here to stay. I think over time it's going to settle into something that's a little bit more rhythmic and realistic. You see Tennessee paying that QB $8 million. I know and you know how important culture is for football. What does it do for your culture if you pay a 16-year-old, unproven kid $8 million, and then you have a walk-on that comes in and is better than him? Well, the team knows the walk-on is better. But whoever paid that $8 million wants that guy to play. That can erode your culture. I think what Valiant (Management) is doing… and you've heard Jim talk about it... we want UM to be transformational, not transactional. We'll incentivize good play. When you succeed on the field, that's when we're going to pay you. And you'll be paid well. That's how you encourage good culture, not erode your culture.”
